The Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag has been marked on 26 June since 2010, following a decision by the representative bodies of the Crimean Tatar people. It is a day of unity, historical memory and continuity between generations of Crimean Tatars, as well as a symbol of their long-standing struggle for freedom, dignity and the right to live on their own land.
For Ukraine, this date has acquired special significance since the beginning of Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014. Today, the Crimean Tatar flag is not only a national symbol of the Crimean Tatars, but also a symbol of resistance to occupation, solidarity with the indigenous people of Ukraine and faith in the liberation of Crimea.
This day reminds the world of a simple and unchanging truth: Crimea is Ukraine.
