On October 5-6, H.E. Mr. Pavlo Klimkin, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, paid the official visit to the Republic of India.
On October 5, in the framework of the visit, H.E. Mr. Pavlo Klimkin, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, held negotiations with H.E. Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, Minister for External Affairs of the Republic of India, state ministers H.E. Mr. Mobashar Akbar and H.E. Mr. Vijay Singh.
During this meeting the whole spectrum of bilateral relations as well as a wide range of global and regional problems were discussed. The Parties underlined the necessity of activization of Ukraine-India political dialogue and principally agreed on the exchange of the highest level visits in 2018.
The two Sides noted substantial improvement of bilateral economic cooperation and activation of official and business contacts in this field. The agreement was confirmed to hold the next session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, Industrial and Cultural Cooperation in November 2017 in Kyiv.
The Parties also appreciated the noticeable revival of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres.
On October 5 this year, within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of India, H.E. Mr. Pavlo Klimkin, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, gave an interveiw to one of the leading newspapers of India – “The Hindu”.
In the interview he analyzed the current state and further perspectives of Ukraine-India relations in major spheres of mutual interest. Minister Pavlo Klimkin emphasized the readiness of Ukraine to further enhance the bilateral contacts with India in all key areas.
The new positive trends in relationship between our countries were also highlighted. In particular, during 2016-2017 the number of Indian students, keen to get higher education in Ukrainian universities, has reached the highest level in the history of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and India – over 4000 people.
Moreover, for the first time the two Sides have started to develop such an interesting and promising area of cooperation as joint filmmaking in the territory of Ukraine.
On October 6 2017, during his visit to India, H.E. Mr. Pavlo Klimkin, Foreign Minister of Ukraine, held a meeting with honorary consuls of Ukraine in the countries of the South Asia region. The event was attended by honorary consuls in Mumbai (India), Nepal and Sri Lanka.
During the meeting the Minister stressed the need for further intensification of activities of Ukraine honorary consulates on the territory of their consular districts, first of all, in terms of protecting interests and rights of Ukrainian citizens.
Specific tasks on promotion of Ukrainian export products in the markets of South Asian countries, launching joint economic projects, development of cultural and humanitarian contacts, promotion of the image of Ukraine were set before each of honorary consuls.
