On 24 February 2026, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of India held commemorative events marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well as twelve years of Russian aggression against Ukraine that began in 2014.
The ceremony opened with the raising of the National Flag of Ukraine. Those present performed the National Anthem of Ukraine and observed a minute of silence in memory of all those who gave their lives defending the freedom, independence, and European future of Ukraine.
Dr. Oleksandr Polishchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of India, addressed the audience, thanking partners and supporters of Ukraine and emphasizing the need for a just and durable peace.
February 24 is also observed in Ukraine as the National Day of Prayer. The decision to establish this day was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on 12 February 2025. Since then, Ukrainians unite each year on this date in prayer for peace, for Ukraine’s defenders, and for the future of the state. As part of the event, a joint prayer for Ukrainian soldiers was held. Archimandrite Lavrentiy of the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine joined the gathering online, delivering a spiritual message and blessing.
Maryna Akram also addressed the Ukrainian community, reading her own poetry reflecting on war, remembrance, and Ukraine’s resilience.
The program concluded with an artistic remembrance session led by Ukrainian artist Nattela Ovsiienko. Through the image of the red poppy, participants honored the memory of fallen defenders of Ukraine.
