With the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in India, on April 25, 2025 Ukrainian pastry chef Julia Danylenko and artist Olga Syrovatko brought the spirit of Ukrainian Easter to the Indian School of Hospitality in Gurugram.
Together, they shared the deeper meaning behind Ukraine’s cherished spring rituals - from baking #paska, the iconic Easter bread, to the art of traditional Easter egg decoration - #dryapanka.
Julia guided students through the process, from preparing the dough to decorating the final loaf. In every Ukrainian family, paska is more than food, it’s a sacred centerpiece of the Easter table, blessed in churches and shared with love.
Then came dryapanka, an ancient Ukrainian technique of decorating eggs.
Olga introduced students to this lesser-known but deeply rooted art form. Unlike the more widely known pysanka, dryapanka involves dyeing the eggs with natural colours like onion peels or turmeric, then scratching intricate designs into the shell.
Even as Ukraine bravely resists ongoing Russian aggression, our traditions remain strong resilient, meaningful, and alive across borders.
We’re grateful to the students for their enthusiasm and creativity as well as the management for warm welcome and hospitality!
We deeply value our collaboration and looking forward to future opportunities!
