On 11 September 2025, the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine was inaugurated in Colombo, restoring Ukraine’s diplomatic presence on the island and opening new opportunities for cooperation.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of India Dr. Oleksandr Polishchuk was invited as a special guest to this important event.
The newly appointed Honorary Consul of Ukraine, Mr. Kemin Perera, will promote bilateral ties in trade, tourism, culture, and education, and will also assist Ukrainian citizens in Sri Lanka who may require consular support — an essential step in ensuring their rights and welfare abroad.
This development reflects the spirit of friendship and reciprocity between our nations, as Sri Lanka also maintains an Honorary Consulate in Kyiv, headed by Mr. Kyrylo Kabanets.
Ukraine looks forward to deepening cooperation with Sri Lanka across a range of mutual interests — including humanitarian demining, food security, scientific exchange, and tourism.
We are sincerely grateful to everyone who joined us for this occasion — colleagues from the diplomatic community in Sri Lanka and friends who shared this evening with us.
A special thanks goes to Mr. Mahen Kariyawasan, Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in Sri Lanka, for his valuable support and contribution to making this inauguration possible.
Jaya Wewa! — may victory and prosperity bless Sri Lanka, and may our friendship continue to flourish.
