On June 28, on the occasion of the Constitution Day of Ukraine, the Embassy organised an event for Ukrainians in India.
Ambassador of Ukraine to India Dr. Oleksandr Polishchuk in his welcoming remarks accentuated that the Constitution is not only a legal document, a set of rules and regulations, but also a symbol of our national unity and state sovereignty. Especially now, during the full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Constitution is a kind of shield, a stronghold of our principles and values, such as freedom, dignity, and justice, that unite us as a nation.
A mini-exhibition about historical figures who contributed to the development of legal thought in Ukraine and were involved in the creation of the first codifications of law on Ukrainian lands was presented. Among them were Yaroslav the Wise, Pylyp Orlyk, Mykhailo Drahomanov, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, Mykola Mikhnovsky.
We also dived together into the history of our Constitution, from long ago to the present day: from 1710 Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk, a Zaporozhian Cossack statesman, archival footage of the adoption of the modern Constitution of Ukraine in 1996 by the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, to a special address by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy as of June 28, 2024.
The Head of the Ukrainian Community in India, Maryna Akram, presented a poetry video project dedicated to Constitution Day created together with Ukrainians from other countries within the framework of activities of the Ukrainian World Congress.
We express our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us for the celebration of the anniversary of the symbol of Ukrainian statehood!
