On March 7-10, 2025, renowned Ukrainian ethnomusicologist and pianist Dr. Taras Filenko together with Second Secretary of the Embassy Volodymyr Prytula visited Dimapur and Kohima, Nagaland, at the gracious invitation of North East Christian University (NECU).
During the visit, Dr. Filenko performed at the Town Baptist Church Dimapur and Patkai Christian College (Department of Music), and TAFMA - Task Force for Music and Arts, sharing the soul of Ukrainian classical and contemporary music with local audiences.
In addition, Dr. Filenko conducted interactive masterclasses for students at NECU and Nagaland College of Music and Fine Arts (NCMFA), where he delved into the history, evolution, and identity of Ukrainian music, offering a unique perspective drawn from his lifelong dedication to preserving and promoting Ukrainian musical heritage. He emphasised the role of music in education, cultural diplomacy, and resilience.
Dr. Filenko’s visit included a memorable exploration of the Hornbill Festival venue - Hornbill Cultural Arena, an experience that further highlighted the deep connections between diverse indigenous traditions and the universal language of music.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to NECU and all those involved for facilitating this inspiring cultural dialogue and look forward to further productive collaboration!
