Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of India Dr. Oleksandr Polishchuk took part in a solemn ceremony on the occasion of the 154th anniversary of the birth of the Indian Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The ceremony was attended by the Honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, Honourable President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, as well as Speaker of Lok Sabha Shri Om Birla.

Simultaneously, the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Ukraine Mr. Harsh Kumar Jain together with the Director of the Fourth Territorial Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Oleksandr Nechytaylo and the Ambassador-at-large Dr. Igor Polikha laid flowers at the monument of Mahatma Gandhi in Kyiv. The Embassy of the Republic of India in Ukraine, in cooperation with Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, opened this monument in the Botanical Garden named after O. V. Fomin in 2021. The space around the monument is named "Oasis of Peace" in honor of the philosophy of the national hero of India.

In 2007, the UN General Assembly, with the aim of perpetuating the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, declared October 2 as the International Day of Nonviolence.
We believe that the rich philosophical legacy of the Indian independence fighter will continue to inspire people around the world for choosing peace, harmony and unity.
One of the apt thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi:
«Through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it - always».
