A special Holy Mass on the tragic occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine took place at the Chapel of the Apostolic Nunciature in New Delhi.
We express our deepest gratitude to the Embassy of the Holy See Vatican and Msgr. Juan Pablo Cerrillos Hernandez for a delightful, peaceful and heart-warming ceremony.
We are also sincerely grateful to all our Indian and foreign friends, members of the Ukrainian community in India, who joined us today in solidarity to commemorate the millions of victims of man-made famine executed by Stalin’s totalitarian regime.
The Holodomor took millions of Ukrainian lives, but it did not break the Ukrainian nation in its desire for freedom and life in a free, democratic and civilised world.
We are grateful to our foreign partners for making important decisions to recognize the Holodomor of 1932–1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, for their support and solidarity with Ukraine in this difficult time in our modern history.
Since Ukraine's independence, 28 states and 3 international organizations, including the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, have recognized the Holodomor of 1932–1933 as genocide against the Ukrainian people. This year, 55 UN member states and the EU delegation signed the Declaration initiated by Ukraine at the UN on the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932–1933. The Kremlin crimes against humanity should not repeat.
Ukraine remembers, the world recognizes!
This evening we invite you to join the Ukrainian tradition and light up a candle in remembrance of the innocent victims of the Holodomor.
