On 23 February 2026, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of India, together with the European Union Delegation to India and Bhutan and the Polish Institute New Delhi, held a joint commemorative event in New Delhi to mark Ukrainian resilience and express solidarity with Ukraine in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression.

While the full-scale invasion began on 24 February 2022, Russia’s war against Ukraine has lasted since 2014, when Russia illegally occupied Crimea and launched armed aggression in Eastern Ukraine, particularly in the Donbas region. This year, Ukraine marks four years since the full-scale invasion and twelve years of resistance.

The evening opened with a minute of silence in memory of all those who gave their lives defending the freedom, independence, and sovereignty of Ukraine.

The event featured a screening of the documentary Porcelain War, centered on artists in Kharkiv, a city about 40 kilometres from the Russian border, who continue to create and preserve Ukrainian cultural identity while their city endures constant attacks. Through the story of fragile porcelain figurines crafted amid air raids and destruction, the film highlights both the brutality of war and the quiet, unbreakable strength of those who refuse to surrender their culture.

The program also included the curated photo exhibition The Eyes of War, featuring powerful photographs by Polish photographers and photojournalists documenting Russia’s war against Ukraine. Equally striking were the written captions and accompanying texts — precise, deeply human, and exceptionally well crafted — offering context that guides the viewer through each image and strengthens its impact. The evening opened with a minute of silence in memory of all those who have lost their lives.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Ms. Patricia Loison, Director of Alliance Française de Delhi. H.E. Dr. Oleksandr Polishchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of India, emphasized Ukraine’s unwavering struggle for freedom and dignity. Dr. Ewa Suwara, Deputy Head of Delegation of the European Union to India and Bhutan, reaffirmed the EU’s steadfast support for Ukraine. Dr. Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Head of Mission of the Embassy of Poland in India, underscored Poland’s solidarity with Ukraine and the shared European commitment to justice and peace.
