On 15 May 2025, the spirit of Ukrainian culture came alive at Pearl Academy Delhi West as we marked World Vyshyvanka Day with a vibrant cultural exchange.
The Ukrainian community in India showcased the rich tradition of Ukrainian embroidery, from classic vyshyvankas to contemporary interpretations, sharing the stories, symbols, and meaning behind each stitch.
The day featured a cross-stitch embroidery masterclass, an exhibition of beautifully embroidered shirts, towels, motanka dolls, and paintings, as well as live demonstrations by skilled embroidery artists. These experiences were made possible thanks to the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in India and the Ukrainian community.
Dr. Oleksandr Polishchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to India, opened the event with a warm message, thanking the Pearl Academy community for embracing Ukrainian heritage with such openness and curiosity.
Around 50 students took part, many of them experiencing Ukrainian embroidery for the first time. The attention to detail, the depth of symbolism, and the hands-on experience left a lasting impression on them.
The event also sparked inspiring conversations on future collaborations between Pearl Academy, the Ukrainian community, and designers — exploring how Ukrainian embroidery can engage in a creative dialogue with Indian crafts, fashion, and design traditions.
We are eagerly looking forward to turning these discussions into something truly special, blending the rich legacies of both cultures into new expressions.
This celebration is part of Vyshyvanka Week, a series of events to honour this living tradition. Stay tuned as we continue to build cultural bridges.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone from Ukrainian community who joined us for this special day.
A special word of appreciation goes to the Pearl Academy team Abhishek Sharma, Ruchi Sharma, Sharda Nautiyal, and Phalak for their invaluable support in making it a success!
